Zillaz: The Rise of the Bamilia (The Mafia Report)
Introduction
Zillaz is a collection of 2,424 NFT’s on the Solana blockchain that have risen to notoriety within the last couple of weeks. Based on 4 different breeds of monsters, this collection has many key elements that have made it stand out amongst the crowd. The Bamilia, their term for ‘family’, is one of the strongest communities in the space right now. Whether you’re meandering around Discord or scrolling through NFT Twitter, you are bound to see this word pop up.
The Story
The Zillaz NFT collection was created around the story of the Zillaz. There are 4 different breeds of Zillaz. These include the Zillaz, the Catzillaz, the Dogezillaz, and the Monkezillaz. Each breed emerged in 2031, one year after World War 3.
The Zillaz were the first breed to emerge after WW3. These are a type of lizard creature. The Catzillaz are a type of cat creature and are the meanest and most aggressive breed of Zillaz. They do not like humans. The Dogezillaz are modeled after man’s best friend; the dog. These are the only breed of Zillaz that are friendly with humans after WW3 and act as human protectors. The last breed of Zillaz, a type of monkey beast, is the Monkezillaz. These creatures have a much higher intelligence level than any of their counterpart breeds and have even developed their own economy.
Although not revealed yet, the Zillaz team plans to add 4 new breeds. These breeds will be attainable by breeding the existing Genesis Collection.
Utility
With the creation of a DAO, a storyline to fit the collection, $RAD (their utility token), and eventually breeding and merch, the roadmap for Zillaz has no shortage of exciting undertakings.
After mint, the Zillaz Team started by making a DAO. The creation of the DAO allows for private sections in the Discord for verified holders. These channels will allow holders to make decisions about Zilllaz future, which they will have a large role in creating. 100% of royalties go directly to the DAO which will give the DAO the funding to take part in the future of Zillaz, and make it what they want.
After the DAO was created, the wallets containing unlisted Zillaz were airdropped $RAD Token. This token is airdropped several times a week at random to wallets that contain delisted Zillaz. This is to discourage people from listing on secondary markets. With 2 Genesis Zillaz and 450 $RAD, holders will be able to breed their Zillaz and create one of four new breeds of Baby Zillaz. A total of 4848 Baby Zillaz will be created.
Along with all the benefits mentioned above, the Zillaz Team also plans to create holder-exclusive merch. According to their website, it will be things that holders want to buy and represent. Holders will also get the chance to claim 3D Voxel models of their Zillaz for later use in the metaverse.
The Zillaz team is also planning to release a game. It will be a fully immersive gaming experience where holders can use their Zillaz as avatars in the game. As it is mentioned several times on their website and in the founder’s Twitter bio, the Zillaz team is dead-set on bringing Zillaz into the metaverse in some form or fashion.
The Team
Although we could not find it directly mentioned, we believe there is only one creator and founder behind Zillaz. The creator is known as ToddlerNFT (sometimes called BriceVibes) on Discord and Twitter. Although we could not find a full name, his Twitter bio says that he is an orthodontist. He also mentions that he runs Zillaz like a business, which we believe is the correct approach to managing an NFT project.
We believe ToddlerNFT is the only creator and founder of Zillaz because he is the only person in the Zillaz discord with the founder’s role. There are also a few people with admin roles, such as NFTBricklayer. According to his Twitter bio, he is helping to build the project. We are not certain of his exact role, but we believe he is helping directly manage Zillaz in some way.
There are also several mods on the Zillaz Team that help run the discord such as Brice Lee, Rick Sanchez, and KNighT on Discord (could not find their Twitters). The mods are usually quite active in the Zillaz Discord.
Aside from their team, the Zillaz community has several well-known holders. Some of these include SolBigBrain, SolBuckets, IcedKnife, and a few other well-respected and OG members of the Solana NFT ecosystem. Although it is unclear if they help or advise behind the scenes, you can sometimes find these members hanging out in the Discord channels.
The Significance: What other projects(and buyers) can take away from Zillaz
Zillaz launched on December 15th with a mint price of 1 $Sol each. Currently sitting at a 12x from mint with a floor price of 12 $Sol (on December 30th), around 2 weeks after mint, it is obvious that Zillaz has been a huge success. Because of this, we wanted to determine what made them different.
The first major difference we have found is the Zillaz community. With only about 6k Twitter followers and 13k Discord members, the Zillaz have a relatively small following. Although they do not have the largest community, they do have one of the most devoted communities in Solana NFT’s. As mentioned earlier, they refer to themselves as the Bamilia or family. Members of the Zillaz community are constantly posting memes on Twitter and making words that shouldn’t start with a “b” start with a “b”. These memes and jokes have fostered a very interactive and joyful community.
The next major difference we see in the Zillaz is real utility. With the combination of a utility token, breeding, 3D models, merch, and the other things mentioned previously, they have created a real demand for their collection. Because breeding requires 2 Zillaz and 450 $RAD, many members have multiple Zillaz. Because the genesis collection is only 2,424 NFT’s total and there are incentives to buy more than one, less than 10% of the total supply is listed at the time of this article.
As mentioned earlier, ToddlerNFT runs Zillaz like a business. He has done a great job of making a fully immersive project. He has created a story around the collection that makes it incredibly entertaining and adds a plot for the videogame down the road, a utility token that provides real benefits to holders, and there will eventually be physical merch. Not only does ToddlerNFT have the technical aspects of the project covered, he also managed to excel in arguably the most necessary part of the project: building a community.
Closing Comments
Zillaz have already started checking things off their roadmap, and they are geared for long-term success. The Zillaz have already created their DAO, holders have already received the $RAD airdrop, and they have begun to put breeding into motion. Although the Zillaz team has been quick to begin completing the roadmap, they have a long-term vision that ToddlerNFT is determined to achieve.
Although there are no details yet, a second roadmap will eventually be released, according to their website. This will probably include details about how Zillaz plan to expand into the metaverse and crypto gaming.
Time Sensitive Opinion
Although Zillaz have been on a steady climb upward, as shown on the graph above, they are sitting at a 12x from mint and it is unreasonable to be certain they will keep climbing in the near future. Although they could see a bit of a dip, with a competent founder, hardworking team, and big plans for the future, Zillaz has the potential to have a promising future. If the community stays as involved and excited about the project as they have been, it will not fail.
